Shakespeare’s Sonnet #155 (The Lost Verses)

PeTree’s Pet Cactus

Thou art so prickly. And unreachable,
O mini-cactus, unpettable pet.
Thou art, nonetheless, unimpeachable.
Our interspecies love will endure yet!
To water, I just dip thy tush in eau
But once a month — ah, were all creatures such.
And when I wish upon the road to go,
Thou comest along and really don’t weigh much.
Thy spiny little spell has oft been cast,
For though I love thee with a love fantastic,
I know I’m not the first nor am the last
To gaze with longing through thy cage of plastic.
But cool as thou may be (and thou dost rock it),
The truth is this: Thou art so in my pocket.
