First Scoop

Lizzy’s Ice Cream Opens

i scream, you scream

Bostonians are known for having some chilly personalities. Could it be because we eat more ice cream per capita than any other city in America, even in winter?

So let’s not kid ourselves about the impact a new ice cream parlor will have upon our very souls. Particularly when it’s Lizzy’s, the ice cream that, until now, you could get only in scoops and pints at select stores or by schlepping to the company’s home base in Waltham.

But the new Harvard Square parlor, which opens tomorrow, will change all that. They’ll be doling out just-churned black raspberry, tangy peach, sweet ginger, and coconut (to name but a few).

This isn’t an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to ice cream. This is the stuff of a higher plane — simple but deep-flavored.

And most certainly not something that deserves a cold shoulder.

Lizzy’s Ice Cream, 29 Church Street, Harvard Square, Cambridge (617-354-2911 or lizzysicecream.com).
