What’s Not to Lick?

Gelateria Opens

Love handles. Jackets. That much-needed hour.

What’s with April and losing things?

Thank goodness for smart gains, like Gelateria. Frank De Pasquale (he of such ballyhooed Italians as Bricco, Mare, and Trattoria Il Panino) and his new partner, gelato maestro Giovanni Gigliotta, have just opened Boston’s one and only dedicated gelato shop, in the North End spot formerly occupied by Salumeria Toscana.

Gigliotta, a Neapolitan-born gelato expert, oversees everything onsite, making sure that the super-smooth and homemade scoops are nothing short of stupendous. He stocks upward of 50 flavors (from tiramisu to pistachio and back) — each of which happens to be healthier than your average, everyday ice cream cone.

Which pretty much equals an utter loss as far as your love handles are concerned.

Thus making April a net gain for you.

Gelateria, 272 Hanover Street (617-720-4243 or depasqualeventures.com).
