Lights, Camera, Talk Therapy

Off the Couch at The Coolidge

Hollywood. What a bunch of head cases — from Faye Dunaway’s “my sister, my daughter” breakdown in Chinatown to the bottomless pit of neurosis that is Woody Allen.

And that’s just on screen.

To help us better wrap our heads around celluloid’s many, many issues, The Coolidge Corner Theatre is taking charge with Off the Couch. The second Tuesday of every month, it follows a screening of a current film with a talk led by professional members of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. They offer insights on whatever disorders and delusions have just been played out — starting with tonight’s feature: Michel Gondry’s surreal love story, The Science of Sleep.

There’s no 50-minute hour involved. Just expert opinions and insightful analysis.

If only Mel Gibson were around to listen.

The Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard Street, Brookline (617-734-2500 or coolidge.org).
