Union Boot

made for walkin'!

You figured it out: Knee-high black stilettos are not made for walking. Or shopping. Or trudging through a foot of snow.

So the search continues for the perfect winter boot. As in, functional but not fugly.

You’ll find them at Union Boot in Somerville, the newly opened (and much-awaited) second spot from Elizabeth Lefavour (otherwise known as the Crazy Clog Lady and twenty-year owner of Vintage Etc. in North Cambridge).

The best score? The lipstick-red kicks by P.W. Minor (makers of the original Union Army boot). But there’s plenty to choose from, like north-of-the-border brands Blondo and Santana Canada, as well as some funky European hosiery. The unsure-footed male can slip into a pair from Naot, the Israeli comfort line.

And, yes, you can still wear your stilettos.

After the snow comes and goes.

Union Boot, 253 Washington Street, Somerville (617-666-1501 or crazyclogs.com).
