Ms. Fix It
Toolkit Alterations

You’ve got a quick fix for almost everything.
Broken handbag zipper? Cutesy ribbon does the trick. Flimsy boot heel? A dab of superglue, and you’re good to go.
But hems and alterations? Looks like someone skipped home ec. For needle-and-thread repairs, put Toolkit on your speed dial. Robin Chalfin’s at-home alteration service is the quickest fix you’ll find.
She’ll come to your home any time (even nights or weekends) to pin and pick up your jeans, bridesmaid dress, or even post-pregnancy pieces you want taken in. A few stitches and a week or two later, she brings them back. At $25 per hour, her rates are a steal, especially for big loads. And if you’ve got a rush job, she’ll do a two-day turnaround for an additional fee.
The Boston Ballet’s costume department, various boutiques, and rockers like the Rolling Stones (she does their fittings when they come to town) all have called her when they need a mend.
Considering sewing is the one skill you lack, maybe you should, too.
