You know how big families go. Everyone’s got their personal shtick.
The oldest plays Mr. Responsible, the third shakes things up, and the youngest steals the scene.
The same goes for restaurants, too, apparently. Audubon Circle/Miracle of Science/Middlesex family just spawned a second Cambridge 1 near Fenway Park, and it has all of the familial markings: minimalist decor with stretches of wood and slate, communal tables, and a superbly likable menu.
Plus, the pizza there rules. Each is long and flat except for a pile of fresh toppings that range from simple (tossed baby arugula, fontina, and Parmesan; Italian sausage, ricotta, and tomato) to the simply sublime (Maine lobster, corn, scallion, and cilantro oil; hot cherry peppers, black forest ham, and manchego). Order them whole or by the half, along with a heaping salad.
Because it’s new, you’ll have to forgive the still-raw state (the patio isn’t quite ready to open).
But that’s how the youngest ones are: always cooking up ways to stay in the spotlight.
Cambridge 1, 1381 Boylston Street, Fenway (617-437-1111).
