Do the Math

Davis Squared Boutique

it's hip to be square!

A quick math lesson: Multiply robin blue walls by vintage-looking chandeliers. Integrate elements from the space’s previous occupant. Plot the coordinates of a lengthy neighborhood legacy and pride.

And always, always exponentiate on style.

Davis Squared, an independent gift and home boutique, is a fresh facade among its Somervillian environs. Owned by husband-wife team Melisa (manager of the late Pluto, formerly located around the corner) and Paul Christie (bar manager at Gargoyles on the Square), the bright, airy space sticks to its roots by incorporating the old store’s signage in its shabby chic interior and purveying a line of “Davis Square”-emblazoned apparel.

Pick from a trove of quirky but oh so necessary items like handmade ceramic Buddha bowls, an umbrella that unfolds into an enormous leaf, and more paper goods than you can shake a stylish stirring stick at. There’s a gift for just about everyone on your list.

Proving that there is strength in numbers.

Davis Squared, 409 Highland Avenue, Davis Square, Somerville (617-666-6700 or davissquared.com).
