Working the Corner

Bonjour, class. Today we’ll be discussing Gaslight Brasserie du Coin.

The new resto opened yesterday, and it’s sure to be the South End’s next big thing. For you, a few notes.

- Brush up on your French. The menu, wine list, and signage are all en français. Follow the signs for tabac to the bar where they sell 24 brands of cigarettes (to smoke outside, s’il vous plaît). Grab seat No. 18 for some lively people watching (distressed mirrors at every turn).

- Uzay (the GM) says it took 44 men to carry the Parisian zinc bar into the building. Show it some respect by immediately ordering the cocktail de la maison: a fleur de lys (violet liqueur, gin, Mathilde peach, and a champagne float).

- Lampposts imported from Reims light the dining room; admire your feast of fruits de mer, a stacked platter of shellfish, then move on to traditional onion soup and steak tartare before tackling moules frites with Pernod and coriander.

- Two musts: Treat your friends (dishes top out at $19.50) and drive (free parking nights and weekends).

Now get the word out. Tout de suite.

Class dismissed.
