Brain Storm

The Savant Project

You think, therefore you are.

But what’s the use when you don’t have a place do just that? Well, here’s a secret (we’ve held off on telling you about it because, frankly, we’ve been too busy pondering the universe): The Savant Project in Mission Hill.

It stands where a lackluster watering hole once lived, but cofounders Luis Sanchez and Benny Kraines have done quite a bit to smarten it up.

They ripped out dropped ceilings and drywall to reveal pressed tin and wainscoting, then enlisted an artist to splash the walls with graffiti-inspired murals. There’s a concrete-topped bar for your pensive elbow, upholstered furniture in an elevated lounge, and Latin- and Asian-inspired dishes like scallop ceviche and beef sliders on mini brioche.

Their mixologist has created thought-provoking cocktails with cordials and aperitifs (they don’t have a full liquor license). And they keep things lively with indie bands and DJs who spin house tunes.

Just something to think about.

The Savant Project, 1625 Tremont Street, Mission Hill (617-566-5958 or thesavantproject.com).
