Peas and carrots. Burgers and fries. Chocolate and peanut butter. Some tastes just go together.

And so goes Fernanda Bourlot (of Simplemente Blanco fame) and Jose Pascual and Phillip Winston (the maestros behind the custom-designed Boxx Furniture). The three South Enders teamed up earlier this year to open On the Side, a retail storefront-cum-gallery displaying a sleek-chic amalgam of their respective design efforts.

It’s like the apartment you never dared dream of: Bourlot’s ivory napkins, wrapped in her singular fabric rings, sit atop a Boxx T-102 color-glass-topped dining room table. Sumptuous Simplemente Blanco pillows texturize Boxx’s industrial steel and fabric couch. White candles and mesh lamps dot landscape side tables. The total effect is as multilayered as tiramisu: austere yet inviting, soft yet streamlined.

The entrance is slightly hidden from plain view, guaranteeing to thin the mobs of subtle yet smashing design aesthetes.
