Two Ways to Do Good

Peace. Love. Good tidings and cheer. They shouldn’t end tomorrow. Resolve to do something for the greater good. Here are two ways to help.

Rogerson Communities
What: Provides affordable housing and community programs for the elderly.
Why: They need volunteers at all 25 locations. Spend one hour a week visiting with the residents or grab your friends and donate a day. They’ll come up with projects like painting a fence or running a photography class.
When: Hours are flexible based on location.
How: After a quick phone interview, they’ll determine where you can help most. Or join Young Friends, a group of young professionals who raise money through social events.

The Greater Boston Food Bank
What: Delivers more than 19 million meals to the hungry every year.
Why: Food banks desperately need food and money right now. Go grocery shopping and donate a bagful; better yet, organize a post-holiday food drive. Or pledge to spend a day with friends sorting and packaging food at the warehouse.
When: Six days a week; flexible shifts morning, afternoon, and evening.
How: Fill out a short application online, and they’ll e-mail you details on what they need and when you can visit.
