food for thought!

From the whereabouts of every chef to off-the-wall trends, you know a thing or two about dining out. But some tidbits are strictly off the menu.

all you can seat
n. When a casual acquaintance takes you up on an only-to-be-polite invitation to share your table.

blind date
n. When the potential partner you’re out with has no idea she/he has to pay.

dinner a d’oh
n.
The realization that a date may not go according to plan. Usually followed by the great escape.

epicured
n. Eureka moment when the incessant foodie bore has finally gotten over him/herself.

gourmaniac
n. The obsessive who shows up on opening night, then posts a review slamming the place.

great escape, the
n. See also: super bolt, dine and dash, chew and screw.

hamburglar
n. Fellow diner who asks, “Can I have a bite?” then proceeds to polish off your plate.

mixed greens

n. When you think you want what (s)he’s having, but you’re not quite sure.

shotgun sandwich

n. A terrifying concoction you have to choke down so as not to offend your host.

subleminate
v. To swap so many ingredients in a dish on the menu that it ceases to exist in its original form.
