Tokyo Drift

Amy Nguyen Textiles

turning japanese!

Sushi sans chopsticks, a tall glass of sake, and a valiant attempt at not sobbing during Memoirs of a Geisha. Sounds like a Japanese sort of a night.

Ready to further indulge in a bit of imaginary travel?

Amy Nguyen will take you where you want to go. The designer may be based in Jamaica Plain, but her line of wraps, bags, and kimono-style tops has a streamlined style that is fetchingly Far East.

Using an ancient Japanese technique, Nguyen dyes her fabrics with brilliant, swirling colors. A snip here and there, a bit of hardcore sewing, and whoosh — a silk purse or wraparound top is ready and waiting.

So what if a few tears slip out when Sayuri finds love?

You could, after all, be crying over the poetry of your new scarf.
