While you crunch on a bag of the ludicrously good maple-basil or maple-cinnamon nuts roasted with local syrup, you can relish the fact that they’re produced and packaged by two nonprofits, First Course and New Hope New Horizons. Plus, no less than 10 percent of every package goes to other local charities.

Born from a dad’s effort to teach his 8-year-old about being philanthropic, the company is doing good in every way.
