Affogato Shake
Serves four
Ingredients
½ c. fresh-brewed espresso
2 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. ground clove
4 strips orange zest
1 orange wedge
2 oz. vanilla gelato
½ c. fresh-brewed espresso
10 ice cubes
4 tsp. creme fraiche
1. For the topping, pour espresso into shallow pan. Place in freezer and check every 15 minutes, whisking vigorously each time, until final product (granita) looks like frozen snowflakes (do not let liquid freeze fully). Keep granita chilled.
2. Combine cocoa powder, ground clove, and orange zest in a wide, shallow dish. Prepare four highball or martini glasses by rubbing rims with the orange wedge and then dipping rim in mixture. Set aside.
3. For the drink, place gelato, espresso, and ice cubes into martini shaker and shake furiously for 15 seconds. Strain into prepared glasses.
4. Top each drink with 1 tsp. crème fraiche and a dollop of frozen granita.
5. Toast Krankl on his success; enjoy the buzz.
