The Show Must Go On

Spring 2009 Wedding Guide

Your wedding is going to be a big hit. You found your leading man and a producer (thanks, Dad). Now all you need is a little direction.

Playbills
Tell the audience who’s playing the bride and groom with illustrated stationery from Rifle Design. Florida-based graphic designer Anna Bond creates whimsical invitations, save-the-dates, and programs inspired by nature, ’50s style, folk art, and textiles. She’ll even design a wedding website to match the concept.

pucker up!

Makeup Artist
Actors must remain flawless in the spotlight. Luckily, Chicago-based Beauty on Call just launched a Miami outpost of its on-location bridal hair and makeup company. Experts vet the best local aestheticians to doll you up preshow. Makeup artists use top-notch products like Laura Mercier and Chanel, and stylists (often tapped from modeling agencies) ensure not a hair is out of place.

something new!

Costumes
The lead must stand out — put her in a white gown. Wedding dress mecca Priscilla of Boston opened in Coral Gables this winter. For spring, it’s launching its new Jewel collection: modern-looking gowns with classic embellishments like beading and lace overlays. Browse the complete lineup at the trunk show, April 16-20.

hey, mr. dj!

Sound Technician
Turn your show into a musical (sans temperamental lead singer). Scratch Events, sister to the DJ academy that teaches wannabes to spin, will provide a club-quality professional who comes with equipment and — if you choose — emcee skills. Scratch picks the DJ from an array of local talent based on your taste.

take a seat!

Stage Manager
It’s imperative that every actor hits his mark. Credelis, an interactive technology company, just launched new software, the iPhone of place cards: a touch-screen seating chart (888-800-6460 or info@credelis.net). Guests tap their names on the customizable screen to find their seats. The high-tech approach is ecofriendly — and really freakin’ cool.

let them eat cake!

Concessions
If you want the audience to stay for Act III, give them sugar. Local sweet company Tea Time Cakes (started by retired Dolphins cheerleader Jenny Ortiz) uses fondant to give her modish desserts clean lines. Layer cakes can be shaped like piles of gift boxes complete with bows, while dome-shaped minicakes come adorned with a flower.

Now you just have to remember your line: I do.
