T-minus 45 min.: Chicken’s roasting. Bed’s made. Self-help books have been replaced by James Joyce.
T-minus 15 min.: Crap! Forgot the hors d’ouevres. And dessert.
T-minus 10 min.: Jump in the car and head directly to Savin Hill Supply.
Frustrated by the lack of one-stop gourmet shopping in her Dorchester hood, Kristine Hoag opened the unassuming general store stocked with epicurean delights.
Hoag focuses on the local and well made, from Applegate Farms bacon to Seal Cove Farm goat cheese to Roslindale’s Fornax bread. Strawberry-honey-lavender jam and Byrne & Carlson chocolates sweeten things up, and upscale nonedibles include Mrs. Meyer’s ecofriendly cleaning supplies.
Soon she’ll be adding seasonal produce and more local cheeses and meats.
Quite the liftoff.
