Usually the idea of a stork’s arrival has you running in terror for your hidden stash of EPTs.

But Boston’s newest restaurant and jazz lounge is a bird of a different feather. Opened this week, Stork Club serves classic comfort fare and a healthy portion of live music.

With an emphasis on bluesy charm, the spot is swanky (dark tile bar, red velvet chairs, caramel-colored walls), and the menu delivers a new take on old favorites (buttermilk fried chicken, meatloaf with bacon and onion gravy, mac ’n’ cheese with ham).

Go late night for the bar menu and to catch the last set by a rotating cast of musicians playing jazz, Latin, Afro-Cuban, or blues every night of the week.

Such a pleasant surprise.
