Island Creek Oyster Bar Opens
What: The earthy, gabion cage-adorned space serves up to eighteen nightly bivalve choices from family-run farms (Misty Point, Hog Island Oysters), seafood-shack specialties like fried clams and fish-and-chips, and adventurous of-the-sea entrees (lobster roe noodles, monkfish schnitzel).
Why: Fish-friendly wines, a thoughtful cocktail program focused on seasonal ingredients, and the 25-seat bar.
When: Mon.-Sat., 4 p.m.-1 a.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-midnight.

It Gets Better
What: Rocca Kitchen and Bar responds to the recent spate of gay youth suicides with a benefit encouraging guests to record messages of hope and support. In between filming, nosh on complimentary nibbles from chef Tiffani Faison.
Why: All proceeds go to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit fighting to prevent suicide among LGBTQ youth.
