Geren Lockhart's Gift-Wrapping Tips

Geren Lockhart's Gift-Wrapping Tips

The Clothing Designer Shows Us Her Secret Hobby

Yes, we know we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, it’s what’s inside that counts, and so on and so forth.

But like the body of Arnold with a Denzel face, a beautifully presented gift never hurt anybody.

In today’s video, we asked Geren Ford designer/founder Geren Lockhart to show us a few of her favorite wrapping techniques from her Los Angeles home. Lockhart, who’s been renowned by friends for her pretty packages for years, showed us two methods: one for a soft package (above) and the other for a boxed gift.

While we were in the zone, a few DailyCandy editors came up with nine neat ways to wrap a present in brown craft paper. (Faux bois stamps? Felt acorns? Check.)

Appearance is all that matters.

Personal Trainer Will Torres Shows Us His Moves

Wouldn’t it be awesome if full-coverage wet suits were this summer’s go-to beach style?

Maybe not. But it’s that kind of logic that led us to film three exercise videos with Will Torres, the handsome, muscled trainer behind the new private gym Willspace, in the West Village.

We asked Torres for moves that would give us immediate results (as in, how to make biceps look tank top-ready in five minutes or less). He gave us nine: three each for abs (above), legs, and arms.

We’ll tell you right now: They’re pretty tough (our out-of-shape editor had to lie down between takes).

But they’re easier than trying to figure out how to wear Spanx under a bathing suit.

The Perfect Fish Taco Recipe

The Perfect Fish Taco Recipe

Chef Sam Talbot Shows Us How It’s Done

Thanks for a great week, weather. We especially appreciate the frizzy hair, inside-out umbrella, and near-constant inability to catch a cab.

But we have something to make it all better: a fish taco tutorial with handsome chef Sam Talbot. (And, yes, he really is as much of a feast for the eyes as his food is for the belly.)

Talbot, who was a Top Chef semifinalist, is now head chef at Imperial No. Nine. He spent years perfecting his recipe — from cooking the halibut just right to making sure it doesn’t fall out of the tortilla. (“My friends would give me a really hard time for that.”) He even gave us the recipe for the relish he uses.

In today’s video, he cooks on a flattop grill, or plancha, but the instructions carry over to an outdoor charcoal or gas grill, should you have a Memorial Day cookout.

Or cook-in, as the case may be.

Royal Wedding Headpiece DIY

Eugenia Kim Shows Us How

Hey, have you heard? Prince Will and Kate Middleton are getting married! It’s crazy how no one is talking about it.

Clearly, we jest. We’re as obsessed with the royals as the next palatial interloper. In today’s video, we team up with NYC-based milliner and all-around cool lady Eugenia Kim to craft a beautiful headpiece (perfect for 5 a.m. viewing parties).

You can buy all the supplies at any craft store for about $20. Feel free to use your favorite colors, fake flowers, and feathers — or even sub a headband for the clip.

We also asked Kim for her take on a Kentucky Derby hat. All you need is your favorite silk scarf, scissors, and a wide-brim straw hat. Don’t have the latter? We just bought one on the street in Soho for $15.

No joke.

Exercise No. 5: Outer Thighs

Exercise No. 5: Outer Thighs

Get Beach Ready with Tracy Anderson

Bat wings, saddlebags, muffin tops, and banana rolls.

We love the names but hate the flab. In today’s videos, fitness queen Tracy Anderson whips us into shape.

Outer thighs (above), saggy bottoms, and upper arms (specifically, that area that sticks out when you wear a tight strapless dress), watch out. Anderson makes the moves look easy, but, seriously, 40 reps and you’ll be hurting the next day.

To keep the workout going — and really see results — get down with Anderson’s awesome new Metamorphosis DVDs. They’re incredibly effective, because you choose the program based on your biggest problem area, be it thighs, butt, or midsection.

Think you can (love) handle it?

How to Make Soy Milk

How to Make Soy Milk

A Demo by the Geniuses at En Japanese Brasserie

We’ve heard that food is the new indie music: Cool points for the obscure, experimental, and ability to incorporate at least one person with a thick beard.

So, to impress our hirsute hipster pals, we’re whipping up our own vegan basics.

In today’s videos, En Japanese Brasserie executive chef Abe Hiroki and co-owner Jesse Alexander show us how to execute both soy milk (above) and silken tofu. The processes are surprisingly simple but do require precision and technique (don’t beat yourself up if it’s not perfect the first time).

If you’ve been to En, you know the tofu rules. But we also feel good supporting a restaurant that’s already raised more than $100,000 for Japanese earthquake relief.

And that’s a universal crowd-pleaser.

Makeup for Men

Makeup for Men

Tips from Y Chrome Founder Antonio McDuffle

James Franco. Colin Firth. Will Ferrell. Maybe they’re born with it?

Or maybe it’s makeup. Yes, we’re serious: The men in our lives could be just one touch-up away (specifically, around the eyes, brows, and chin line) from movie star good looks.

To show them how, we enlisted beauty genius and Y Chrome Makeup for Gents founder Antonio McDuffle. In today’s video, he dispenses his tried-and-true tips — from where to apply his patented MascuLiner to why men should wear a light lipgloss.

The results are so stunning, we predict it’ll soon become routine for all our other halves.

For more great makeup tips, check out our videos on covering up blemishes, applying fake lashes, and concealing under-eye circles.
