A little birdie told us about a play space named after a little birdie. Naturally, we flew right over.
And landed at Kookaburra Play Cafe, Lincoln Park’s new romper room/coffee joint. Inspired by Euro lounges, the wide-open loft is sprinkled with sitting areas where you can watch your child flit from one activity to another.
Crawlers pad around with soft toys and pull themselves up to the ballerina bar. Toddlers and preschoolers tinker in the play kitchen and curl up in the book nook. Even older siblings (up to age 7) won’t mind tagging along; they can scurry through tunnels and zip down the slide in the huge playhouse.
Your job: Buy some java and a Lovely Bake Shop cupcake and let time sail by. Of course, you could sign up for a cardio-sculpt or Piyo (Pilates/yoga/strength) class, held weekly on-site. What better way for moms to flock together?
Kookaburra Play Cafe, 2267 North Clybourn Avenue, between Fullerton and Webster Avenues (773-281-5400 or kookaburraplaycafe.com). Open play is $10 per child, $5 for the second sibling; infants/crawlers and third siblings are free.
