Urban Mischief, Andersonville’s newest boutique, is kind of like a Seurat.
At first glance, it’s a fabulous home decor store, but there’s more to it than meets the eye.
After getting laid off, owner Shelly Elfstrom decided it was time to do what she loved. So she began scouting estate sales and flea markets for vintage furniture and curiosities fit for city living.
Elfstrom repaints and/or reupholsters furniture (Danish-style credenza, ’40s settee, green wingback chair), so it’s good as new. Affordable housewares (deco barware, linens, Swedish vases, gold-leaf cheese plates) never surpass $50.
In a back nook, there’s a burlesque swing, tastefully arranged vintage pinups, men’s army/navy-style hats and toppers, charcoal nude sketches, and body scrubs. Yes, it’s a sultry shop in a shop. Indulge or don’t — it’s your call.
That’s the point.
