Field Guide to Birds of Chicago
Species: 2 Sparrows
Origin: The chef-driven brunch nook — founded by childhood friends and Charlie Trotter’s alums Gregory Ellis and Steven Fladung — opened Monday.
Habitat: Lincoln Park
Anatomy and Physiology: A cozy 63-seater, the restaurant is distinguished by red and orange accents, glass fixtures, and repurposed materials; a tree partially destroyed in a forest fire serves as the thirteen-foot bar.
Diet: The creative locavore uses fresh ingredients to create twists on classics, such as gourmet Pop-Tarts (foie gras, cherry compote), a pork belly sandwich (braised in-house), a seasonal veggie quiche, and biscuits and gravy.
Drink: Enjoy full coffee service, as well as adult beverages from Midwestern favorites, like Half Acre and Two Brothers beer and Koval liqueur. Rotating cocktails include a Bloody Mary with heirloom tomatoes and bellini with seasonal fruit puree.
Trivia: Generously portioned entrees range $7 to $13.
