On hot summer days, Miko’s Italian Ice walk-up window is heaven.
But eating ice when it’s cold outside? That’s just painful.
Summer staffer William von Hartz agrees. Starting tomorrow he’ll transform the tiny ice haunt into Miko’s Flipside Cafe for the winter months, inviting people inside (yes, really) for a taste of his home cooking (he used to bake desserts for Rootstock, so he’s a pro).
Cozy up to the six-seater bar for a breakfast of rosemary and goat cheese puff pastry washed down with locally roasted coffee, cocoa, and hot mulled cider.
Lunch brings split pea soup, grilled veggie sandwiches on focaccia, mac ’n’ cheese, and custom sodas — all made fresh daily.
The finale? Valrhona chocolate cake, curry cookies, or chocolate chip cookies.
You’ll flip for it.
Miko’s Flipside Cafe, 1846 North Damen Avenue, at Moffat Street (773-645-9664 or mikosflipside.com). Opening party, Saturday, 4-8 p.m.
