Like baking, mixology is a science: too much of an ingredient and you’re toast (or, well, toasted).
Learn to pour like a pro with Pour Souls, a new company run by mix master Tim Williams. After working the bar at Japonais, Williams realized customers could stand to learn a thing or two.
His workshops aim to school average Joes on the art of the cocktail. All Things Spirit gives insight into the taste properties and origins of vodka, rum, or American whiskey; in Infusions, you learn to infuse spirits and syrups (cinnamon-infused Demerara syrup, black peppercorn-infused vodka).
In the newest class, How to Pair a Turkey, Top Chef Season 3 contestant Sara Nguyen teaches you to prep and carve a bird while Williams creates drinks to go alongside.
It all takes place at the Pour Souls Wicker Park studio. But if you get a group together, the mixologists will gladly come to you.
They’ll even set up a bar to serve bespoke beverages at your next party.
Three cheers to that.
