Splitting Hairs
Dry, wintry locks drink up pumpkin’s natural moisturizers. Just ask The Colour Room stylist/colorist/makeup artist Brian Kalz. His DIY hair mask includes jojoba and olive oils (prized for their protecting and smoothing abilities) and a dash of lemon to brighten, freshen, and revitalize.
Note: For best results, use organic ingredients.
Brian Kalz’s At-Home Hair Mask
Makes one application
Ingredients
1 c. cooked fresh pumpkin, cubed (can use canned in a bind)
4 tbsp. coconut oil
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. jojoba oil (optional)
1 squirt regular conditioner (makes the mask easier to wash out)
1. In a bowl, mix all ingredients.
2. Apply mask evenly to hair and scalp (avoid scalp if you’re on the oily side); wrap in a hot, damp towel for 10 minutes (even better if you’re already soaking in the tub). Rinse well.
