Mess Hall & Co. Seasonal Preserves

Here Comes the Sundquist

mess hall preserves!

The thought of fresh fruit brings tears to your locavore eyes.

Conjure summer in the dead of winter with In Fine Spirits executive chef Marianne Sundquist’s new preserves company, Mess Hall & Co.

Sundquist and her husband, Hans, spent the summer crafting preserves using ingredients from Midwest farms: Seedling Fruit apples and Cain & Abe Freshwater Rum from Madison’s Old Sugar Distillery for apple-rum butter, ghost peppers (the world’s hottest pepper) from Marengo’s Nichols Farm & Orchard for tongue-tingling mustard (it’s not scary-spicy, promise).

Garnish Manhattans with bourbon-soaked bar cherries; spread herbaceous blueberry bergamot jam on toast (and listen to the accompanying jam-session playlist, available on the website).

Seasonal change brings new products, so stock up while you can.

You’ll be berry happy.

Available at In Fine Spirits, 5418 North Clark Street, between Rascher and Balmoral Avenues (773-506-9463 or infinespirits.com), $10. To see products, go to messhallandco.com.
