Stock His Closet at Independence

Made-in-America Clothing and Accessories

independence shop for men!

They say clothes make the man.

In that case, yours is made of sweatpants and pleated khakis. (And a great personality.)

Here to save legions of dudes — and the women who love them — from embarrassment: Independence opens today.

Owned by Oak Street Bootmakers founder George Vlagos, the shop is a welcome addition to the luxury-laden Gold Coast, from the tattered American flag decorating the wall to the army green lights.

Vlagos and store manager Joel Bednarz (dapper in tortoiseshell glasses and a polka-dot button-up when we arrived) stock the shop with independently owned, made-in-America brands that are built to last: Gitman Bros. classic oxford shirt updated with a modern cut; an Engineered Garments sharp, reversible overcoat; and, naturally, Oak Street Bootmakers exclusives like the peanut suede Red Brick Sole Trail Oxford.

Coming soon, look for in-store cobbling demos by Vlagos and accessories like popcorn poppers and handmade leather baseballs and footballs.

Batter up.
