They say every time you eat a sandwich, an angel with celiac disease sheds a tear.
Thank heavens for Senza, a new gluten-free dining destination.
By day, the East Lakeview haunt operates as a casual coffee shop, serving owner Susan McMillan’s wheat-free baked goods (English muffins, carrot cake). At night, executive chef Noah Sandoval (Schwa, Green Zebra) takes over, cooking elevated dinner fare that leaves wheat a distant memory.
Hearty apps include gnocchi with duck egg and ricotta and foie gras with quince-rosemary sorbet. Move on to elegant entrees such as black garlic-flecked halibut (a customer favorite); tagliatelle with truffles and grilled bread; and duck strewn with blueberries, corn, and macadamias.
Brunch (served on weekdays and weekends) satisfies further: beignets, yogurt-filled waffle cone parfaits, flatbread with ham and a sunny-side-up egg.
It’s truly divine.
