Justin Roberts is known for making the hyper and diapered rock out. Now he’s rocking them to sleep.
The power-pop king’s new album, Lullaby, is his first collection of original nighttime songs. Turns out he’s a natural at bringing a busy day to a hushed close. The dreamy tracks shift the atmosphere with elements of chamber music, ’70s soft rock, sleepy bossa nova, and R&B.
Our favorites are the violin-laced “Polar Bear,” which inspires dreams of snowy landscapes, and “What the Stork Sent,” a calming tide of sugary vocals and harmonizing. For some songs, Roberts tapped the talents of Chicago Symphony Orchestra members to back him on strings, harp, English horn, and more.
Savor it. Soon you’ll hear nothing but a pin drop.
