Addiction is real.
So we apologize in advance for pushing your drug of choice: Firecakes Donuts is now open.
The tiny River North shop from Jonathan Fox (La Madia) forces you to face your inner demons: Ten daily flavors (plus one rotating special) taunt with all the right buzzwords.
Traditionalists feast on crackly, gently sweet apple fritters; old-fashioned tangy buttermilk; classic jelly; and chocolate iced, while donut enthusiasts dig into the hard stuff.
Indiana’s Kress Apiary wildflower honey coats the glazed; triple Valrhona is a blast of bittersweet chocolate, cocoa powder, and cocoa nibs; lemon verbena meringue’s whipped, burnt center gives way to a bright citrus burst. La Colombe drip coffee and pulled espresso neatly balance the sugar rush.
Get there early for butterscotch-praline and chocolate-hazelnut long johns.
And clean up.
