Venture to Italy with Nico Osteria

The Gold Coast gets a new restaurant

Nico Osteria: suave, handsome, deft in the kitchen and behind the bar. Did we mention his Italian accent?

Head to the coast — the Gold one, that is — to meet the seafarer, the latest venture from One Off Hospitality (Big Star, The Publican, Blackbird, et al.).


Erling Wu-Bower (Avec) captains the kitchen, serving plates with Mediterranean flair. Expect crudos aplenty, from snapper to needle fish, along with salt-crusted branzino and spiny lobster. House-made pastas (lamb capeletti, smoked whitefish triangolini with sea urchin) and wood-fired pizzas round out the entrees. For dessert, Amanda Rockman’s walnut flan tart; ample affogatos; and Nico Torte with sabayon, pumpkin, and soaked plums are not to be trifled with.


Slick design choices — copper ceiling, subway tile walls — plus Italian and Grecian wines, grower champagnes, and aperitif-style cocktails add extra charm.

This one’s quite a catch.
