Cicchetti Gets Cooking in Streeterville

Small bites, big flavors

New Year’s Resolution No. 78: Learn Italian.

Get started in Streeterville with a small-plate smorgasbord at just-opened Cicchetti.

You can thank chef Michael Sheerin (Trencherman, Blackbird) for his Venetian-inspired starters: bruschetta with tuna and pickled shallots, meatballs drenched in pancetta tomato sauce, house-cured sardines (we swear, you’ll be hooked). Move on to oysters, white bean soup with speck, seafood stew, or squid ink orecchiette with lamb soppressata. For dessert, don’t look past pastry queen Sarah Jordan’s dark chocolate cannoli with sweet potato flan.

Italian aperitifs punch up the craft cocktail list. We like the bright Buongiorno, with gin, Aperol, bergamot, lemon, and egg whites.

Bold design features — exposed beams, wooden floors — along with an eco-conscious recycling and food prep program earned Cicchetti Chicago’s first Green Seal new restaurant certification.

And for that we have just two words: molto bene!
