Foreign Intelligence

Those French. They just have to be good at everything.

Kissing. Pastries. Chocolate. Potato preparation.

And, bien sur, decor.

Le Magasin is a little slice of the Left Bank right on Clark Street, and it’s just the place to discover their tricks of the trade. The store is actually set up like a well-appointed French pied a terre: Scented Christian Tortu candles on the side table, Limoges porcelain table settings in the dining room, intricate antique engravings on the walls, and colorful linen napkins that laze haphazardly in large wooden armoires. The most recent addition to the store: the boudoir, which stocks 300 thread-count sheets and anything else you’ll need for a truly French experience in the bedroom.

Though we all know it’s just no use trying to compete with them there.

Le Magasin, 408 North Clark Street, between Hubbard and Kinzie Streets (312-396-0030).
