Checking In

The most important thing about a hotel? The bar.

After all, once you’ve downed a few scotches, you’re not necessarily all that concerned with where you’re going to rest your head.

Which is a good thing for Motel, the stylish new bar opening Saturday in the old Wards compound. You won’t find any overnight accommodations, but there are plenty of reasons to put down some roots here: Motel is all about reviving the lost art of cocktail and conversation.

There’s nary a mocha latte-tini or blaring stereo in sight; instead, look for a drink menu with more than 25 classic concoctions (like a French 75 and a Rob Roy), ’60s-inspired orange vinyl booths and brown leather sofas, and a library of vintage drink guides and cocktail books. Mix that all up and you’ve got the perfect place to get sauced.

Of course, they don’t take reservations.

So you might find yourself waiting for a vacancy.
