There are some stories so sweet they write themselves.
Dear DailyCandy,
We are writing to introduce you to Solomon’s Cookies, a company that we started in honor of our grandmother, Frieda. It all started back in 1943, when Frieda met and fell in love with Aaron, who was shipped off to Europe before they got engaged. But Frieda continued to woo him with care packages of her jelly cookies, chocolate-chip brownies, and banana bars.
Thankfully, Aaron returned home and they were married. Frieda raised their two daughters and continued to bake, sending care packages to those lucky enough to make her select list. For Frieda, you see, the cookies were a labor of love.
In the late ’80s, as Frieda’s eyesight began to fail and getting around the kitchen got harder, her daughters went through each of her tattered 3x5 note cards, carefully detailing the ingredients and tricks that made her cookies so coveted.
It is from those notes that we bake our daily batches at Solomon’s.
We hope you enjoy them.
Sincerely,
Jason and Adam
Obviously, we did.
