What has all the heartbreak, passion, foot-stomping, suffering, tight-fitting clothes, and fabulous shoes of a Spanish soap opera?
No, besides J-Lo and Marc Anthony’s duet at the Grammys.
Flamenco, of course. The centuries-old Spanish art form — which combines dancing, singing, and the guitar — causes passions to run high at the Flamenco Arts Center. Founder Cynthia Rosario established the center after getting kicked out of other dance studios all over the city (apparently all that foot stomping wreaked havoc with the wood floors).
The bare-bones studio may not look like much, but it comes to life during dance classes for all age groups and levels of expertise. Plus, weekly jam sessions combine dancing with live singers and guitar players for an authentic Spanish feel.
Putting your foot down never felt so good.
