Planes are the ideal place to throw back a few.
For one thing, there’s not much else to do at 35,000 feet. It beats the heck out of the food. And, of course, for those with a fear of flying, it helps to ease the anxiety.
But those who prefer to booze with both feet on the ground should check out Jet Vodka Lounge, opening this weekend. Designed like the inside of a souped-up Boeing 777 (rounded ceiling, lush white-gray leather banquettes), Jet has all the trappings of a first-class cabin.
And it’s home to Chicago’s most extensive vodka list: more than 130 kinds — including England’s Skorppio, with an actual scorpion in each bottle; Russia’s Red Army, originally downed by Stalin’s soldiers; and Greenland’s Sïku, blended with ice from a 60,000-year-old glacier. The coolest part: All are served on ice tables with chiseled holes to hold your bottle, so the next round is always within reach.
You’ll be flying high in no time.
Jet Vodka Lounge, 1551 North Sheffield Avenue, between West North Avenue and West Weed Street (312-730-4395).
