Ring My Belle

You don’t really hate your curls.

But wouldn’t it be nice if, just once, you could flaunt that mythic goddess-like je ne sais quoi that only straight-haired sisters seem to achieve on humid days?

Look no further than Maxine, the salon at the corner of Rush and Huron. House colorists Tina Deeke and Jasen James have created the BaliCurl, a no-foil approach that adds shimmer to your ringlets. Named after balayage, a highlighting technique that uses sweeping motions to paint straight hair, the process brushes color on the round of your curls, adding depth and reflection instead of saturating entire strands.

The result: a subtle sparkle in warm, sunny tones no more than two levels above your base color.

And because you’re going for random accents rather than an all-over dye job (translation: no hideous roots), maintenance is low — about every three months or so.

Who’s hating who now?

Available at Maxine, 712 North Rush Street, at Huron Street (312-751-1511).
