Simon and Garfunkel had it all figured out. They knew how to enjoy the sound of silence.
It’s not so easy for the rest of us, though. Sure, we try to remain low-key and calm (thank God for downward-facing dog), but sometimes our excitement just gets the better of us. Especially when shopping’s involved.
Such is the case at Habit, which ever-so-quietly just opened its doors. The boutique is devoted to emerging designers; one look at the inspired men’s and women’s clothing and handbags, and we knew we had something to shout about.
Everything owner Lindsey Boland sells is made by new, under-the-radar talent, and sometimes runs are limited to one or two pieces. What’s more, Boland has the Chicago exclusive on all designers showcased — like leather clutches by Tulina, bow-back metallic skirts by Rebe, retooled vintage jackets by Sinner Saint, and screen-printed tees by Crazy Coconut Creations. Work by Art Institute of Chicago students and grads is well represented, too.
Because silence may be golden, but some things are too good to keep quiet about.
