Don’t Know Much About History

Okay, kids, time for a little art history lesson.

No need to break out into a sweat, fake the flu, or head home sick. This is one lecture you’re going to like.

Topic: Adriane Glazier Designs, circa 2005. Our first piece is one that exemplifies Ms. Glazier’s work — jewelry that connects cultures, religions, and eras. Notice the double-strand necklace with an original nineteenth-century broach, which depicts a domestic worker in shades of pink and brown. The longer layer has a tassel with tourmalines dangling from a vintage copper button engraved with the man in the moon. In other words, found items that, at first glance, don’t belong together but actually enhance each other’s beauty.

But our favorite piece is the necklace that combines a two-sided, Victorian-era feather-art charm featuring a bird and a sterling Hindu amulet all woven together with artificial sinew.

What’s that you say? You aren’t familiar with Victorian era feather art?

Lucky you. After all, those who don’t remember history are destined to repeat it.
