Your financial planner friend has been suggesting Accounting 101 for years.

Instead, you spent a cool thousand on karate classes and laser hair removal. And though you may have mastered your black belt (and below the belt),  your bank account is still in the red.

Make a wise investment in someone’s future by sharing what you’ve learned. This Is Me, a nonprofit organization, provides mentors to girls ages 11 to 16. Founder Heather Sattler launched the weekly afterschool program in 2000 to give adolescents the opportunity to learn about things like African drumming  and improv from accomplished women like you (investor relations notwithstanding).

There are three ways to get involved: You can teach a seminar about something you know (like filmmaking or self-defense), you can become a board member, or you can get matched up with one of their existing programs. Contact the executive committee with your idea and credentials. The girls then decide whether it’s something they want to learn about. If you’re lucky enough to get a go, you might want to sign up for their teenage money management workshop.

After all, it’s never to late to learn something new.
