Hear that? It’s the tune of 2006. Before we dive in, a shout-out to our favorites from 2005. Feel free to hum along.

Winter in Chicago is a little like pregnancy.
Several long, hard months of discomfort and misery. Then, the day it’s all over, you forget it ever happened. (Well, almost.)
This year, if you can’t wait for the cold to break, catch an early glimpse of what’s to come at Jade — a new women’s boutique opening this week in Wicker Park that’s packed with spring collections from up-and-coming designers.
Owner Laura Haberman, a former stylist and fashion writer, searched near (the coasts) and far (London) for these finds. Like Pia Hallstrom’s beaded and embroidered caftans, sparkly sheaths from Frost French (as in, Sadie Frost, the first Mrs. Jude Law), Issa’s wrap dresses, and Matt Bernson’s metallic slides (to flip-flop your way through summer).
Just don’t forget that October’s lurking around the corner. Winter’s never fun when it’s a surprise.
Another thing it has in common with pregnancy.
Jade, 1557 North Milwaukee Avenue, between North Avenue and Division Street (773-342-5233).
