There’s something to be said for predictability.

The chick in the leather chain-smokes and loves Iggy Pop. Bridesmaids begrudgingly wear pink taffeta. North Shore moms carpool from swimming to soccer in oh-so-easy linen. All is right with the world.

And then there are derelicts like Lauren Jane who turn expectations inside out.

The new collection of ocean-hued, cottony-soft jersey blends could have become can’t-leave-the-house jammies for couch cruisers. But no. Lauren Jane makes insanely sexy get-ups — from back-baring, empire-waist frocks to halfway-buttoned-up rompers. Picture body-hugging (and surprisingly slimming) halter cat suits, flutter-sleeve dresses, and a baby doll minidress that can be worn solo or over leggings (the hands-down winner in our book).

These clothes look right with gobs of gold and a mojito or flip-flops and a frappucino. Just don’t wear them at home with slippers and a pint of ice cream.

That would be a little too predictable.
