No Time to Lose

Sometimes, a year goes by too quickly.

And all those good things you meant to do (volunteer, buy organic, recycle) fall off the map.

Tonight, get back on track at the opening of Eye of the Storm, I Witness, New Orleans native Joshua Mann Pailet’s photo exhibit chronicling the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

In the days and weeks following the storm, Pailet (an internationally known photo dealer and photographer in his own right) rode his bike through the city, documenting the destruction and devastation left by the storm.

The exhibit features 53 black-and-white photographs — everything from the residents of the Ninth Ward to the impromptu toxic art exhibits that the government outlawed — but the whole catalog contains a stunning 162 images, which are available for private viewings.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art in an effort to help rebuild the city’s rich cultural community.

Because even though a year has passed, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

And if anyone knows that, it’s you.

The Architrouve, 1433 West Chicago Avenue, between Noble and Bishop Streets (312-563-1033 or thearchitrouve.com). Opening reception tonight, 5 p.m. Thereafter, by appointment only.
