Slick Willy

There are plenty of things that give you the willies.

Mayonnaise. Your married friends. And the word moist.

For an altogether more pleasant experience, check out Willy & Irv, a new jewelry collection from Chicago designer Bari Cohen. Before launching her line, Cohen interned with Marc Jacobs working on the men’s collection and runway show — and the influence is obvious.

Unlike the feminine chains and dainty charms currently underwhelming jewelry display cases everywhere, Willy & Irv powers through with heft and weight. The metalwork is vintage inspired; the chains have real substance. And because they’re made of base metal, there’s none of that glitzy golden shine — just a worn-in patina that ensures your necklace doesn’t upstage the rest of your ensemble.

But the best part is the embellishments. Oversize padlock hearts, whistles that work, and acorns and capsules with twist-off tops and hidden messages like “You are beautiful.”

But not in a creepy, stalker kind of a way.
