Cole Mining

Elizabeth Cole Jewelry

Certain ancient rituals are better left to history: mummifying, leeching, Caesar haircuts, deciphering hieroglyphics, not to mention long afternoons at the vomitorium. (Seriously: barf.)

On the other hand, jewelry designer Stephanie Owen seems to have found a way to learn from the ancients. Her line, Elizabeth Cole, is inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, her mother’s glamour, and her father’s Western style.

Not for the bling-shy, Owen’s latest 24-karat-plated collection glimmers in unapologetically bright yellow gold with earthy brown undertones.

Swarovski crystal-encrusted serpents set in black enamel coil up to form rings, while bracelets come with symbolic iconography like winged nudes, a simple Gordian knot cuff, or — in the line’s standout design — a rhinestone-encrusted ram’s head. Thick gold chain necklaces are hung with antique-looking keys, kissing animals, tusks, and vintage-inspired coins bold enough to make Run DMC proud.

Just another little bit of history repeating itself.
