Podpacker, a service that buys your CDs and downloads the music onto spanking-new iPods, makes letting go easier.

Send them an e-mail detailing what music you’d like to sell (anything but promos and classical), and a rep will come over to inspect your collection. Within a few weeks, you’re sent a fully loaded iPod, plus DVDs containing the music files from your CDs.

You don’t get your CDs back, but you do get a free iPod with bells and whistles equal to the value of the CDs you traded. The minimum (100 CDs) gets you a Shuffle. The max (450) gets you an 80 GB system.

So you’ll be back to banging your head to the classics in no time.
