Between high fashion, smart media, and a smokin’ art scene, New York is pretty hip. Heck, even Billy Joel thinks it’s a state of mind. Deeply uncool as he may be, the guy did a few things right.
Ignoring the Windy City wasn’t one of them.
Particularly now that we’ve got Lakeview’s newest hotspot, Sura, from the owners of Spice, Sea, and Peep in Manhattan. It’s the perfect hangout for an uptown girl. The all-white, space-age restaurant and lounge offers Asian fusion fare and a DJ (the entertainer) on weekends.
Only the good come hungry. Thai tapas include duck crepes, crispy ginger calamari, and coconut-crusted shrimp. Thai bouillabaisse and macadamia nut-crusted salmon satisfy larger appetites. If you want to go to extremes, order basil, beet, or turmeric with your rice. Sura means “liquor” in Thai, but until they get their license underway, it’s BYOB.
It’s even on Broadway. Which may not be Broadway. But it’s ours. And so it goes.
